When I was a kid, growing up in wintry Denver, I looked forward to the first Saturday in March every year, because that's when the Putt-Putt miniature golf course opened. This great defiant act reminded me that winter wouldn't last forever, no matter how cold and snowy it had been.
As an adult, I feel the same way about the start of baseball Spring Training. The first Saturday in March always means the Giants are on the radio, and that sound is like a tonic. This year, for the second year in a row, the games that aren't on the radio are being webcast by the fine broadcaster Doug Greenwald (yes, son of the legendary Hank). And not only can you listen to Doug call the games, but you can even IM him between innings at giantswebcasts on AIM.
Happy Spring!
