A Major League Baseball game in Oakland ended yesterday when the pitcher failed to catch a return throw from his catcher, allowing the runner on 3rd base to dash home with the winning run. As the pitcher himself admitted, a 5-year-old could have made that play correctly.
I have never seen a baseball game end this way. But then, I've only been watching for about 37 years.
I saw that play...isn't catching the ball one of the things they teach you in AA? Guess he missed that day.
And did you see Mike Lowell catch an Arizona runner at third by hiding the ball in his glove and pretending he'd thrown back to the pitcher? That didn't work in my son's Pony League games... doesn't do much good to juice up if you can't figure out who has the ball, does it?

The worst part is that Rodriguez was upset that he didn't get the call at the plate that he wanted. So, his temper tantrum (minor) ended costing him the game and a blown save in a game that was critical for the team. That is what makes it a little league play in my mind.
