We spent part of Saturday at Oakridge Mall in South San Jose, which just got fully remodeled. Several new restaurants have opened, along with 20 theatres and a groovy food court, plus a zillion new stores. It looks like a fine place to be patriotic by spending money.
"be patriotic by spending money." What exactly does that mean? Is it patriotic to spend money to buy stuff that is totally made outside of our country by underpaid slave labor? Is it patriotic to support large American corporations who continue to outsource jobs? Where does buying something directly relate to being patriotic? Here's how to be patriotic: Walk into your local Wal-Mart and ask them whatever happened to the "Made in America" campaign that they so highly tauted a decade ago. Then start bying only stuff that is made in the USA. That's what I call patriotic. All this other shtuff is just trying to be patriotic, but not.
